Bocce is Back!
 
Why not join the boys for some bocce after the long, wet winter! The season begins on Monday, April 2. The group meets every Monday starting at 9:30 am at the Sycamore Valley Park courts on Holbrook Drive in Danville. Contact Jack Carver if you need more info
 
 
UPCOMING MEETINGS & SPECIAL EVENTS
Our first branch outing in 2017 to AT&T Park to see the Giants take on the LA Dodgers is quickly approaching! 35 Sir members and guests purchased tickets to see this game which we all hope concludes with a Giant's victory.  Future outings included the Royals on June 14th (59 attendees) and the world champion Chicago Cubs on August 9th (33 attendees) - all day games. Unfortunately, if you don't already have your tickets, you missed the boat.
Join our branch outing to FILOLI Gardens in Woodside. We have arranged a 2 hour docent-led tour of the estate and gardens. A special discounted senior rate of $20 per person will assure you of an unforgettable experience of colorful spring flowers and trees and the stunning estate home. Our tour begins at 10:30 AM, May 10.  An optional no-host lunch following the tour will be explored in nearby Woodside. Go to this link to register. Our May guest speaker is Bryan Walley, the executive officer of CoCoSAR (Contra Costa County Sheriff's Dept Search and Rescue Team).  Bryan, a retired Chevron employee of 33 years, has spent the past 11 years working in this 2nd career with the county search and rescue service  He has been a team member for over 11 years and typically serves in the Command Post during missing person searches, or as a search team member.  He will speak about the team's responsibilities, team members, training, operations, and challenges with special emphasis on searching for missing Alzheimer’s and Autistic subjects.‚Äč Please plan on joining us at our May 17th luncheon to for Bryan's presentation. On May 25th, our group will trek out to the foothills to the Yankee Hill Winery in Columbia. This has become an Annual Cooking Class event for our branch.  Chef Ron will demonstrate Thai cuisine this year.  The cost is just $40/person and includes all the food and wine. The class starts at 2 pm followed by a communal meal which ends around 6 pm.  Plenty of time to drive home OR take the opportunity to explore the local area by staying at a B&B or local hotel.  This event takes the place of our monthly Dine-Out and Cooking activity groups for May. Why not join other SIR 128 members and their guests for our first game outing to the Oakland Coliseum to catch the A's take on the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday, June 7th. The first pitch is at 12:35 pm and the cost is only $20 per tickets.  Further details are available on our activity web page or by contacting Robert Caviglia directly. BTW, you can also register for a 2nd outing to see the A's on Wednesday, Sept 6th when they take on the Los Angeles Angels. 
If you haven't done so already, you are invited to participate in a FREE docent-led tour of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory scheduled for Tuesday, August 18th OR Tuesday, August 22nd from 8:30 am to 12:15 pm. This is our 4th year of organizing these tours.  The tour is limited to a maximum of 14 persons; spouses or guests (18 yrs. or older) are welcome. Participants in this tour must also submit a special form for clearance at least 3 weeks in advance of the tour. Please register for this tour by going to our RSVP page and completing a registration or see Sir Doug Williams for additional info.
