UPCOMING MEETINGS & SPECIAL EVENTS
If you are curious about what goes on at this government facility, we have arranged several FREE docent-led tour of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory this summer. Unfortunately, both our Tuesday, July 18th tour and Tuesday, August 22nd tour are now full! The tour, which runs from 8:30 am to 12:15 pm, is limited to a maximum of 14 persons; spouses or guests (18 yrs. or older). Participants in this tour must also submit a special form for clearance at least 3 weeks in advance of the tour. Please keep us in mind for future tours.
The August Dine-Out is a MYSTERY! Where will it be? Unfortunately for those of you just becoming aware of this event, all 24 spots have been claimed by adventurous souls interested in trusting Mr. Quon in this special Dine-Out?? Let's hope that they all survive the event. If you are curious to see more info on this event, check out Jim Quon's current write-up on the group's activity page. He has left some clues as to the venue. Jim is betting that this will be just as much fun as the group's recent experience at LIMA in Concord and KHYBER PASS in Dublin. Will he be 3 for 3? Only time will tell.
SIR128 Members and Guests: you have another opportunity to join us for a SIR’s Day at the Ball Park. The Oakland A’s vs Los Angeles Angels  at 12:35 pm, on Wednesday, Sept 7th. Just $20 each for Reserved Seat Tickets. If interested in attending, register on-line or reach out to Robert Caviglia. Payment options and additional details are provided on our A's outing page. Built in 1873 for use as a farmer's lodge, the Village Theater has been recognized as a historic site by the Heritage Resource Commission, the Village Theater now serves as a performing arts theater. In 2009, the Village Theater was renovated and the lobby expanded to include an art gallery which hosts quality art exhibits and receptions. Sir Dick Marsh has volunteered to coordinate the purchase of discounted group of tickets for a performance of "The Playboy of the Western World" at the Village Theater and Art Gallery in Danville for Friday, September 15th. Click HERE for more info and/or contact Dick Marsh directly if you would like to attend this performance.
We have arranged for a private guided tour of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) on Tuesday, September 19th at 10:30 am. SFMoMA’s expansion, which was completed in 2016, has set a new standard for museums (read this review) - you will be amazed! The cost is $33 per person and our tour will be limited to 25 participants. Additional information is available on our Special Events page. Please plan to join us for this special visit.
Our September luncheon speaker is retired architect, Gene Metz. Gene will tell the story of John Marsh, the first American settler in Contra Costa County, and his extraordinary life prior to, and after, his, arrival. Gene will also provide an update on the Trust's latest successes on behalf of the Stone House and Marsh Creek State Park. Mr. Metz has worked to save the John Marsh house since prior to becoming a founding member of the Trust in 1994. This should be an excellent talk on local history. You can find additional information on Gene by visiting our Future Speakers page. Hope to see you at September 20th luncheon!
