TCHO Chocolate Factory Tour and Tasting--February 17,2023

To all SIR Chocolate lovers and guests,
Come join us on an interesting and tasty docent led tour of the well known TCHO Chocolate Factory in Berkeley on February 17th at 11:00am.  The original TCHO Factory once only found on the Embarcadero in San Francisco has now expanded to a new facility in Berkeley.  On the tour you will learn how TCHO has collaborated with farmers worldwide from West Africa, Haiti, the Caribbean to Madagascar to find new ways to create better cacao for better chocolate.  They have installed 10 Flavor Labs around the world allowing their farmer partners to make chocolate from their own beans in order to understand how to improve their quality.  TCHO Chocolate is used by some of the best chefs around the nation, and is used by Blue Bottle Coffee in their mochas and Salt & Straw in their vegan mint chocolate chip ice cream.  You will be given a factory tour  to see how they go from "bean-to-bar" and in the end be treated to the various flavors they produce.
The tour is about 1 hour and is limited to 20 participants at a cost of $15 per person. If interested in attending, go to the RSVP section on our SIR128 website to register.

Mt. Diablo Wildflower Walk - Friday, April 7th

On April 7th come join Sir Phil Reed on an interesting 2.5 mile walk up Mitchell Canyon fire road to observe the beautiful wildflowers that come up every spring on Mt. Diablo. Some of the blooms are only found on Mt. Diablo, and Phil is an expert on the flora and fauna of the canyon.
If you haven’t been on one of these annual walks with Phil you are in for an eye-opening experience. The flowers should be in abundance because of all the precipitation this year.  The walk will last about 2-1/2 hours and is limited to 20 participants. We will meet Phil at 9:00 am, and the walk will begin from the parking lot at Mitchell Canyon Road entrance to Mt. Diablo State Park.  No charge for the tour, but there is an entrance/parking fee of $6 ($5 for seniors 62+) per vehicle (cash only). The main part of the walk is on a fairly flat dirt road, with part on mildly single-track trail. The walk will be followed by a separate Dine-Out lunch at Rocco’s Pizza, Walnut Creek
